  • Healthy skin & hairSmoking - Smoking damages the elastin and collagen fibres in the skin and can lead to the appearance of premature wrinkles and sagging. Nicotine causes blood vessels in your skin to narrow down, thereby impairing the blood flow to your skin. Reduced blood flow does not allow the skin to get the required nutrients and oxygen supply. Smoking also damages the elastin and collagen fibres present in skin tissues resulting in premature wrinkling and sagging.
  • Exercise - a fitness routine combined with a healthy diet and good lifestyle habits can help you retain your youthful skin glow. Cells get an ample supply of oxygen-rich blood while exercising and imparts a healthy glow to your skin.

Vijayalakshmi Iyengar Dear ladies according to the American Academy of Dermatology as a rule most of us lose anywhere from 50 to 100 strands of hair each day. On `hair washed' days one may lose around 250 strands(But we should not avoid washing our hair to retain hair as it will for one eventually fall and far another unhygienic hair/scalp can cause more damage)
If one has been careful with diet and life style and yet appear to lose a lot of hair it could be due to predetermined genetic factors, family history, and the overall aging process or hormone problems.
Another factor to consider is self-inflicted damage- hairstyles like cornrows or too-tight braids can cause hair loss called traction alopecia.
Many of us manipulate our hair including brushing too much and towel drying aggressively when the hair is wet or things like-dyes, chemical treatments, bad brushes, blow dryers, and flat irons all which result in damage and breakage.
If your hair fall continues for a long time with no change in cycle please consult your dermatologist.
I hope we have been of some help to all of you.

Manjula Bhatnagar Hi,
My hair has recently been falling and it has become thinner also - could it be because I am going through menopause. I have tried homeopathy and alsoeat more fruits and vegetables. What other foods can I eat that will perhaps also help control hotflashes. Thanks
