Though Nirulas is a fast food chain, they have always been a reasonably priced gathering place for families. On November 14th 2008, Nirula’s took a very important first step towards addressing the nutritional needs of their younger customers.

33.1% of children in India are overweight or obese and a lot of it is due to consumption of unhealthy processed food and fast food, as well as children leading increasingly sedentary lifestyles. Nirulas decided to address this issue and offer children a healthier fare through their New NutriByte burger range. Three new NutriByte Burgers were launched. The Big Boy Burger, Chicken Tikka Burger and the Paneer Tikka burger were re-developed to have on average 33% fewer calories, less sodium, less cholesterol and more potassium.

Throughout the process the burgers were tasted to ensure that the healthier recipes had not compromised on the taste that was so loved by the Nirula’s customer.

Nirula's has always been a pioneer and innovator in the industry - be it introducing the first Quick Serve restaurant in the country or the first Ice Cream museum. Our new range of Nutribyte burgers is another unique initiative. Burgers have become a staple diet for youth and therefore we decided to come up with a healthier option which is not only nutritious but also scrumptious. The Nutribyte Burgers offer high fiber and low calorie option to our consumers without compromising on the taste. Also while creating this new burger range we have endeavored to provide choice of 3 different burgers to our consumers, along with health and taste. We have partnered with an American weight management company focusing on healthy living - NutritionVista to support us in our venture in coming out with this innovatively healthy range of Nutribyte burgers.

FYI - FIBER
WHAT’S FIBER ALL ABOUT!
Dietary fiber — found mainly in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes helps with digestion, but is probably best known for its ability to prevent or relieve constipation. It is sometimes used to help with diverticulosis. Fiber can provide other health benefits as well, such as lowering your risk of diabetes and heart disease.
HOW MUCH FIBER DO I NEED PER DAY?
According to The National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine
Age 50 and younger Age 51 and older
Men 38 grams 30 grams
Women 25 grams 21 grams
BENEFITS OF A HIGH FIBER DIET
A high-fiber diet has many benefits:
Prevents constipation.
Lowers your risk of digestive conditions.
Lowers blood cholesterol levels.
Controls blood sugar levels.
Aids in weight loss.
DON’T OVERDO IT -
High-fiber foods are good for your health. But adding too much fiber too quickly can cause intestinal gas, abdominal bloating and cramping. Increase fiber in your diet gradually over a period of a few weeks. This allows the natural bacteria in your digestive system to adjust to the change. Also, drink plenty of water. Fiber works best when it absorbs water, making your stool soft and bulky. Without the added water, you could become constipated.
HOW MUCH FIBER DO THE NUTRIBYTE BURGERS HAVE?
Big Boy Burger 5.5 g
Chicken Tikka Burger 3.71 g
Paneer Tikka Burger 3.67 g

FYI - CHOLESTEROL
Cholesterol, a waxy substance produced by the liver and found in certain foods, is vital to the body as it helps make vitamin D, some hormones, re-build cell walls, and help us digest fat. Too much cholesterol in the body can lead to serious problems like heart disease. Many factors can contribute to high cholesterol, but the good news is there are things you can do to control them.
Some of the causes of high cholesterol are:
Being overweight
Family history
Diet
Physical activity
Age
WHAT’S CHOLESTEROL ALL ABOUT! WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOOD AND
BAD CHOLESTEROL?
The two most important types of cholesterols are LDL cholesterol "bad cholesterol" and HDL cholesterol "good cholesterol" because of their positive or negative effects on the body. Most cholesterol is LDL cholesterol, and this is the kind that's most likely to clog the blood vessels, keeping blood from flowing through the body the way it should.
IS CHOLESTEROL GOOD FOR ME?
We all require a certain amount of fat and calories and cholesterol in our diets to fuel our growth and activities. But excessive amounts even in childhood can lead to diabetes and heart disease later in life.
HOW MUCH CHOLESTEROL DO THE NUTRIBYTE BURGERS HAVE?
Big Boy Burger 7.2 mg
Chicken Tikka Burger 0.4 mg
Paneer Tikka Burger 0.4 mg
